Darcy couldn’t help but take Elizabeth’s unintended compliment to heart. It gave him hope to know she thought well of his appearance because he knew of enough of her character to know if she didn’t like him at all, even his appearance would be tainted by her negative opinion of his character.

“You do me more credit than I deserve, Miss Elizabeth. On the other hand, I have gained quite an education on what goes into making young ladies ‘presentable.’” Rubbing his sides he smiled, continuing, “I must say my first days in a corset have made me want to do away with such a ridiculous convention!
